Awards

Mason Dixon District Awards for units will be percentage-based and data will be taken from Scoutbook, My.Scouting.org, and Tentaroo. Be sure to update Scoutbook/My.Scouting.org with your service hours and advancements.

Adult Leader awards and nominations are due no later than Monday, February 17, 2025.

Adult Leader awards will be verified via the Scout office as they relate to tenure and training records. The four roundtables per year requirement is verified via My.Scouting.org as district commissioners record monthly attendance.

Training Awards for Adult Leaders in Units

The training awards and keys are designed to recognize unit Scouters for tenure, training, and performance in their leadership roles. Progress record forms with the 2023 requirements for these awards can be found at the links below.

District Award of Merit

Available to registered Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the district level.

The District Award of Merit is a council award presented by districts in the same manner that the Silver Beaver is a national award presented by councils. The award is available to Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the district level, normally for more than five years of service. The award is made available annually based on 1 for each 25 traditional units or a fraction thereof. The district need not present all the awards to which it is entitled each year. It is not appropriate to nominate a Scouter who has already received this award. A professional Scouter or other council employee may not receive this award based on employment service. However, a professional Scouter or employee who also serves as a volunteer Scouter may be eligible, based on volunteer service. Candidates for this award must be nominated. Self-nomination disqualifies the candidate.

To nominate someone for the District Award of Merit, the form can be found at the link below.

Veteran Award

To recognize BSA individual members for tenure in Scouting. Veteran Scouter Award for individuals celebrating their 5, 10, 15- & 20-years or more milestones of registration.

To submit your Veteran Award, the form can be found at the link below.

Unit Leader Award of Merit

The Unit Leader Award of Merit is presented to unit leaders to encourage units to be strong and viable by attaining certain benchmark characteristics of strong units. The top youth leader for the unit must nominate the unit leader, given he/she has met the seven requirements. The nomination is certified by the unit commissioner.

William D. Boyce New-Unit Organizer Award

To recognize volunteers who have organized a new unit. The volunteer organizes the unit by following all procedures as published in the Unit Performance Guide (No. 525-025) using the four pillar steps: 1)Know the Market, 2) Make the Call, 3) Build the Team, and 4) Grow the Unit, in particularly ensuring a new-unit commissioner has been recruited and works with the new-unit organizer at the very beginning of the organizational process.
